yeah, good luck to our newbie mod.

what comes to the way new change was made, it was messed up big time and shows that current mods can't agree on anything.

MCA ran his own will by announcing that the process was via mail and by setting deadline.

LES did his own will by just calling henri directly once he felt like it.

I think we should vote which one is better ruler and make that one the only mod on the board.
maybe even admin.

Oh well,

I for myself already sent the first PM to an udf author, nothing too serious, only possible scope problems [Big Grin]

Jooel, hmmm I have to agree with your point !
It was kinda like 'the virgin receives the child' for me ... no voting at all (Hey, don't get me wrong; I am willed to moderate [Big Grin] )

Maybe I should better email Rogier about his downsizing and ask if he feels good with that

I don't know what the fuss is about. I did say in the second post "I'll give it a few days and barring any major objections put forth the request to Henri".

I therefore just carried through with my word. I did not hear (see) any major objections so proceeded in an efficient manner.

Les,

While I endorse the end result, I don't really approve of the process. My reading of the above comments suggests many other members feel a bit uncomfortable about the latest process.

While all the nomination processes todate have been flawed to some extent, I believe this one has generated more unease than usual.

As a side point, it is my personal opinion that jpols, Richard, Bryce & kdyer all are deserving members who would make excellant moderators. Would you have approved if I mailed Henri to make them moderators without any real inpute from current moderators or members.

In the future, I believe there should a process for selecting moderators that allows real input by at a minimum the full pool of current moderators.

PS: I believe that the process that MCA was trying to initiate would have generated exactly the same result as what finally happened. Yes, it would have taken a week or two longer but it would have generated less unease.

I agree that we should create a standardized way to up/down-grade moderators. E.g. no posts in 3/6 months and/or no replies to email/PMs will result in down-grade. Moderator nominees must state that they are willing to take on the moderatorship. And so on. The whole process should also happen on the BBS, in order to have a fair and open procedure.

not sure I wish for open procedure.
think that should be every time discussed first behind closed doors to ensure fairness.

open discussion is good thing but wide acceptance of methods and timetable with current mods has to be more considered than speed, openness or even efectiveness.

My sentiments are with Jens on this. Moderators always have PMs or other communications means to express views that they would rather not air in public.

Running the process publicly in the BBS gives a greater sense of openness & fairness without really impeding moderators cross communications & effectiveness.
