For the topic: W2k/XP - Keep the Window visible on login?

An alternative method is to use the following command in your .BAT file that initiates the KIX script:

MODE CON COLS=80 LINES=50
-or-
MODE CON COLS=80 LINES=20

(Modify Lines= to match minimum expected screen resolution.)

This allows the script to start minimized, but it will pop back up. FWIW.

So, how does this affect the async nature? Modifying "RunLogonScriptSync" has the side effect of holding back the desktop until the logon.bat is done.

Asynch nature is not modified. This only affects the visual effect.

However, this will also override the default settings for the console windows. For example, I prefer to have 300 lines total with 25 lines visible and scroll bars.

sealeopard,

This only impacts the login script window that is running. Future CMD windows are not impacted.

Consider it a run-time adjustment, that has the additional benefit of restoring the window.

I meant the logon script window. My logon scripts have a verbose mode that prints pretty much anything going on inside the script to the console. This way, I can just scroll up and down to make sure everything is where it is.

I also believe that this will completely disable the vertical scrolling as you lock the console to the specified size.

You might be able to live with the horizontal lock, and omit the "lines=" portion to achieve part of the goal.

Not perfect, but it has the advantage of not requiring admin rights or requiring the logoff and back on to totally take effect.

If the effect is visible script (only) this is a workable solution. It is also W9x compliant too. [Smile]

Best regards,
Ed
