When you say the batch file is "called" what exactly do you mean called?

You can try something like:

%WINDIR%\SYSTEM32\KIX32.EXE %0\..\INST.KIX

Also, please do a search on this board for LOGIN.BAT and it should provide a lot more insight about this issue.
