Okay I guess it is time for me to put in my comments.Having used boards since before M$ only had 2 9600 lines available
(as I'm sure some of you have also) I agree with all of you. There all fine points.
Generally speaking a moderator (for most boards) is only there to MOVE not DELETE topics to other forums if they do not apply to the current forum and notify the user/s that the post was moved because if was off topic, or to censor offensive language. The latter I don't really recall seeing here on KiXtart.
My vote (opinion) is to allow everyone full access to this forum, Martin can review and move (not delete) off topic threads and notify posters when they are off topic and ask/remind them not to go off topic in this forum.
I heavily agree with Shawn and MCA in that many, many good/great ideas come from some threads. Preventing or editing can and will remove the creative flow.
I vote
1. NO EDITING by moderators (except to remove vulgarity perhaps) typing mistakes or copy/paste mistakes can ruin the code.
2. Move off topic threads to another forum
3. Agree upon and post general (preferred) naming standards (even within M$ the code jockeys don't always use the same conventions)
4. Moderators should remind and ask posters not to go off topic in this forum.
5. Moderators should also remind posters to attempt to use a name and description of the UDF in the topic title, and if way off they should change the topic title (if UBB allows that). That way searching can be achieved easier.
I think most of us remember what it was like to lose the URL for old posts.
6. I also vote for NEVER DELETE a post. Who are we/they/anyone to say a post is not of value to someone else. Move OLD posts to an archive folder if needed, but have a link to that post that now points to the new location.
I don't know if its possible or if Henri would even want or allow it, but I would not mind having a zip file of all the posts on this board, or if someone else could MIRROR his site. If this site were to go down or Henri to lose interest, we would lose a very great resource.
Let's all get along now and start this ball rolling. Too many Chefs spoil the soup. or so I've heard.
