My script is now working fine on all logged on NT and Windows9x machines on the domains. I was just interested to know if the script will work on workgroups (i.e. those not part of NT4 domain).
I can't imagine a machine in a workgroup will run the script from the NETLOGON share on the server but it would be nice if it could.

Hi Bob,

Your correct in that your login script will not run on any Windows systems that are not either members for NT/2000 or pointing to for Win9x. However, if you have access to these systems and they have access to the logon servers you may be able to have either the Starup group or the Run command run the login script for you. Depending on how the network is setup the users may/may not be prompted for a login name and password. Quite messy but doable (at least for NT/2000) if you really had to.

By calling a bat file from the run command in the registry you could do this. Of course, there would be no domain so the domain variables would not be available. Of course you could set this machine specific in the same script you run from the run key. You could central your scripts by attaching a central share during the machine specific portion of the script then you continue with the generic portion of the script.

You would need to ensure that kix was correctly installed locally on all machines as well.

I think this should work for Win9x machines as well.
