Hey Lonkero...

I thought I saw you working on some script to do a inventory and reporting, or am I mistaken.

Can't seem to find that post now. Do you have one, and/or is is complete enough for testing?

If so, what is the link?

well...
version 1.0.3 is finished. there is actually nothing and kent said it will take up 10 minutes to scan >1000 machines.

then, there is the scan engine of the new version. the parallel one, so it could be good to run it on testing wksta as it probably hits memory roof in 2-3mins.

mmm... can't give you the link...
well, will search it for you.

Lonkero, what do you mean it hits the memory roof in 12 minutes? Why are you writing to the Registry?

I'm not sure what the actual purpose of this script is. Is it just to see if it can run multiple scripts or multiple client querys?

What is the end result and or real purpose here? Or is the Inventory script VIG is working on a better solution then what is being tried here?

Please give me a little more information on your script.

Thanks guy. [Smile]

the starting purpose (the script at the top) was to show the power of kixforms 2.1 at the moment of publishing.

anyway, as it was said to be slow, I decided to try fasten it by multitasking.

the multitasking version is still in the middle of it's creation.
the reason it's there is to show what is possible and if someone tries it, see if there is speed difference.

reason for writing to reg is to get the ultimate speed.
also, it can finally be stored there if the user wants to as cache info. like, if scan of your net takes 1h to run, the info should be stored.
anyway, db would be better place to store, but at the time of scan, it's damn slow...

Does it hit a memory limit if everything is stored in RAM Array? Yes, bummer if hangs or loses network connection, but if it could all be first stored into a hugh array and then written to a database! Not doable ?

doc, it was done in the first one.
but how to do that when you have 100-2000 scripts scanning?

there should be some sort file writes per scanned machine... to their own files...
and reads after the writes, some control files...

it would be slower than any other option.

I was thinking about that memory stuff and we can control that pretty easily.

you know, if you have Oracle interface in nt-machine, it will eat up all the memory available, we could do that too.

on every scan, check if the free mem is less than 2M. if it is, sleep 0.2 and check again...

no hardy...

only problem about the reg is that everyone running the script should understand that the info is written there.
as some failures may occur or something and then, someone would like to free their mem- and reg-space of this stuff.

hmmm... Okay. Well I guess for now maybe I'll try to stick with Vig's code and see if I can get some results from that.

I'm going to a meeting early next week where I think I'm gonna be asked to provide some type of Inventory solution that can be printed out easily.

I have code I worked with Bryce on to get the data, but no good way to print it out. Vig may have something to do that easier, so will try his stuff and see where I get with that.

Good luck stress testing KiX and NT.

ah, I haven't checked his code so well, but quess it's been under longer and harder development (versus my 1 week [Wink] )
so, sure, currently it's better.
I'm just exploring the ways I'm going with this to get it reliable, quick and as covering as ...
well...

check his code, I myself can adapt some ideas from him after I get my own ones written down...
