Were running an multi Windows OS system.. Now Im interested in running a special script only on Windows NT and Windows 2000 and Windows XP Pro machines... Problem: We are also running Terminal Clients in this network and I dont want it to be disturbed. Also I want to leave out the old Windows 9X/ME clients (If I got a log on these that would also be nice (containing ComputerName/IP/MACadress), If i can write it to a textfile on the network that would be nice too...

I thougt there would be an option for it in kixtart, but I just cant seem to find the right command. Is this an old feature or am I just to tired reading it ?

Is @ProductType the way to go =??= And could someone please help me with an simple setup ??
-----
if @ProductType = "Windows NT Workstation"|"Windows NT Server"|"Windows NT Domain Controller"|"Windows 2000 Professional"|"Windows 2000 Server"|"Windows 2000 Domain Controller"|"Windows XP Professional"
;
then run THISSCIPT
else continue
end

As you can I dont have a total grasp of kixing the file away..
;-d

Tanks for the help in Advance..

inwin macro devides the old poor wintosh (win9x/ME) machines from actual systems (nt 4/5/5.1).

to check on the terminal client, check on one, there should be some sort of variable...
you could check by searching the forum or...
it was console or terminal...

just list them all:
run "cmd" and execute "set"
you get the list of vars and one of those is just for terminal...

mmm...
dont think he is anymore here.
I feel tired after this weekend and nobody can stand longer than me...
well, he comes one time zone later.

what comes to the log-file, I suggest you go with simpliest option, ini-files.

read the docu about readprofilestring and writeprofilestring...

in your case, all you need is writeprofilestring.
make a empty file in somewhere and give every one write or change rights to it...
then just make the logonscript do writeprofilestrings for key and values.
key could be wksta-name and values... well, you know what you need. like the mac-address-

Well actually Im here ..
Stayed up late list night ;-d, now Im back.

Problem is that Im running SMS (Systems Management Server) in my workplace. And ofcourse the wonderful kixscript..

So Now that m$ told me to modify my logonscript accordning to their plan.. I was thinking of putting the SMSclients on ONLY the NT/2K/XP Klients and servers..

We do also run some other systems, but the primary concern here is NT/2K/XP.

So the logon script contains this smsls.bat ..

But the last time sms killed of some older win98 machines which I dont tend to repeat. So my main concern is still to check what OS its run. The other stuff is just bonus ;-d

if @ProductType = "Windows NT Workstation"|"Windows NT Server"|"Windows NT Domain Controller"|"Windows 2000 Professional"|"Windows 2000 Server"|"Windows 2000 Domain Controller"|"Windows XP Professional"

(Is that line correct ?)

then smsls.bat
else

if @INWIN = 1 goto SMSCLIENT
if @INWIN <> 1 goto CONTINUE

;Det som skall köras på en NT/2k/XP maskin
;Clients that will receive the SMS client

:SMSCLIENT
if exist("smsls.kix")

:CONTINUE
;Rest of the logon script

Am I looking the right way here ??

the path is considered better, but if used with nt based systems only, it should not be required.

check my post above, to see the actual usage easiness of kix [Big Grin]
