Hi guys....nice to be Friday again [Razz]
I am wondering if any of you had trouble with WMI query, cause I am testing logon script un several machines and I found that not all of the machines answer the same.
For exaple:
code:
$System_Bios = WMIQuery("SMBIOSBIOSVersion","Win32_BIOS")
$Modelo = WMIQuery("Model","Win32_ComputerSystem")

Wount work on Pentium 200 MMX (value="") and do on Pentium Celeron 1200 (new).
Is there a limitation about old equipment and WMI?.

Thanks again guys.

Do the computers where it doesn't work have a SMBIOS installed? Use the WMI Object Browser from the WMI SDK to take a closer look.

Sealeopard thanks for the 3 minutes answer.
I installed WMISDK in one of these computers and Model has "empty" value on the WMI Object Browser. I cannot see if it has SMBIOS installed or the version.

IIRC, SMBIOS came about at around the Pentium/Pentium II release. It's an extended BIOS for system management. A Google search would give you this info. Thus, some older computers might not have an SMBIOS (DMI BIOS) but just a standard BIOS. I know that our leftover Pentium-133s don't have SMBIOS.

Let me understang better before going arround.
Am I gona have to end up flashing the bios, updating the version so as to make it DMI...if it is possible. Pardon my ignorance. [Big Grin]
Once I did this in my computer and I almoust lost it, I coudnt find the original to make it go back to its original configuration.
What about old computers do they usually fit in the normal inventory?
Thanks for the help sealeopard.

AFAIK, you cannot just upgrade to an SMBIOS. Older computers simply are not capable of supporting it. Thus, a computer either has an SMBIOS or it has it not.

AFAIK ?? What does it mean ?
Well this is not good news but i will have to search other ways to do it. Standard kix macros and a couple of codes I saw arround can give you pretty good info. Thanks again sealeopard.

As Far As I Know.

Simplest solution, get rid of all PCs that do not have an SMBIOS as they are way too old anyway to run any supported Microsoft OS. However, those PCs migth still have a life as Linux computers, .e.g firewall/router/IDS/printserver.
