Hi,

I'm running a kix logon script which uses WMI to collect information for inventory. Now it's fine because user's are administrators of their machines, but we want to move quickly to lock down the workstations and remove users from the loacl Admin group. At this point the WMI connection won't work anymore. Is there a way to specify the credential of an adminstrator being a LOCAL connection to the WMI provider? I know that I could start another script with SU, but i'd like to find another solution if possible, because SU is very slow to load the other user's environment.

Thanks to all.
Fabrizio

You should take it out of the logon script entirely and run it as an admin script or a Task Scheduled script.

Run it from a central location under an administrative account. I don't think you need to collect hardware info every time a user logs in.

I wrote my inventory to collect hardware details like SN, CPU, video, make, model, HD, etc to one table... for 'static' one-time collected data. and a seperate one with SN, name, ram, modem, current user, etc. to a 'dynamic' table that is updated at every login.

see my kix page to a view of the relationship table and a copy of the empty MDB

BTW, if one of you access sql geniuses could write me op the 'table building' sql for access statements, I would be grateful. I'd like to be able to dynamically build the tables at need.. move it away for archival and the next user to login would be able to automatically create the mdb and create the tables...

Create a dummy Access DB that's empty (user copies it from network location) and use the CREATE TABLE statement on it. Feed it into DBCommand() and you've got a new database.

Thanks vary much for your comments. I think I will opt for a light logon script collecting only essential information (those provided by kix macros) and move all the WMI stuff to another administrative script.
