Typelib Viewer v1.1 is now released. Following is a list of changes from 1.0:

  • The bug causing "Send To..." not to work if there was a space in the path has been fixed
  • Icons have been added for all members to delineate properties, methods, etc. without having to select them.
  • The member info string has been formatted for greater readability.
  • About box added to app to show version info, etc.
You can get it here

The Windows Platform SDK contains a free OLE-COM Object Viewer as part of the download. I would highly recommend the SDK if you're developing anything COM/WMI/ADSI related. Additionally, the free WMI SDK contains a WMI Object Browser.

I hate to be totally ignorant...BUT...

I downloaded the TLV and it looks better than v1.0, for sure. Great work Steve, thank you!!

I was browsing through the IADs section and I came across IADsComputer under TypeInfos. When I click on it, I see all the changeable properties for the computer in the right pane. How would I use this tremendously powerful viewer to change the location text for all computers in AD? I see all the right players are involved (IADsComputer, Location as String), but I don't know how to make this info into a Kixtart command script. Any help? One good example should lead me on the way to figuring out the rest of it and to really make use of this great viewer.

Again, thank you for your time and effort. I believe this to be one of the best forums I've ever dealt with before...

Shawn,

To get the member string formatted the way I wanted I had to switch over to a richtext box. I didn't include that dependency in the setup.exe. That will be included and reposted by tomorrow.

Thanks for the kudos, all. And thanks again Shawn for the awesome icons--they really pull it all together.

Thaddeus,

The first step is creating a handle to IADSComputer or whatever object you want to control. Do a search on this forum for "GetObject" and/or "CreateObject". Those are the kix commands that give you initial access into the world of COM.

Once you see a couple of examples posted and compare that to the info you grab from TypeLib Viewer, you should be able to start cruisin' from there.

Steve, thanks for that. Was able to install and run your viewer on my home machine last night, no problems ... very slick !

The machine I tested on at work here is NT4 SP6a but running IE 4.2 ... since newer versions of IE tend to upgrade all these common controls, figure maybe its to do with that ...

Even though it still shows up as version 1.1 the setup.exe has been updated to include all dependencies including richtx32.dll.

There shouldn't be any more installation problems.

Steve,

Not sure if this has been mentioned already ... an MRU list would be most handy ...
