SENDMESSAGE function does not work on Win95... why ?

I am trying to write a short script that checks to see if a number of given computernames can be reached or not. Does anyone have any good ideas ?

Thanks in advance

SENDMESSAGE has never worked for me in Win95 only NT.

Try writing a script that maps to these computers and then if the mapping is complete regtister the @error code to verify. Then after verification USE T:\\blah\blah /DELETE to disconnect it.

Hmmmm. That does not make me very happy. Now I will have to create shares first on all the machines that I want to test. Any other ideas, someone ?

The SendMessage uses the messaging function of windows. NT has a messanger service (defaulted to start automatically), while the only messaging client for win9x is winpopup. This must be running on 9x to get messages, otherwise the system ignores the message. You could have your logon script start, and minimise it.
hope this helps,
