The Scriptomatic Tool

Write WMI Scripts Like the Pros!

The Scriptomatic is not supported under any Microsoft standard support program or service. The Scriptomatic is provided AS IS without warranty of any kind. Microsoft further disclaims all implied warranties

The Scriptomatic is an example of a Hypertext Application, essentially a Web page that uses a .HTA file extension. When you fire up the Scriptomatic, it automatically loads the names of a selected set of WMI classes (for example, Win32_SoundDevice and Win32_NetworkAdapter) into a dropdown list box. After the Scriptomatic finishes loading, you simply select the desired class and, voila! You have a script that returns information from, say, Win32_SoundDevice or Win32_NetworkAdapter.

Actually, Doc, with me never being one to let a good idea go un-stolen I already hacked it to make KiX code.

Here is the link...

And here's the KiXomatic version [Wink]

KiXomatic

Addendum: Chris was obviously faster since I had to search for the post.

BINGO

Hold your cards, we have a winner!

KiXomatic is too [Cool] for words.

Does KiXomatic qualify as a candidate for inclusion in FAQ forum?

Cheers...

don't know about the name...
kix...
it's vbs for sure.
anyway, to have it as winner, I see only problems in replies, not even one success story.

Jeez, Jooel, thats kinda harsh. I think the 'woohoos' above indicate that at least someone has had success with this.

Yes, the code is vbscript in .hta format. I didn't claim the script was in KiX, but rather that the output of the generated scripts was in KiX format. The errors that you get in some of the generated scripts is because the output is an array that cannot simply be echoed to the screen. The 'errors on page' may have something to do with the browser's java settings.

Mostly, it is a quick an easy way to generate a script to look at the properties of the WIN32 class in WMI. It should be a good primer for WMI scripting.

I agree that there are some successes.. However, when working with this script and generating code, there have been a few classes that did generate errors. Correct, it is a good example of coding in WMI as it reads classes in from your system.

Be included in the FAQ Section? Maybe at a later point. Personally, I think this is an advanced topic for the new scripter.

Regards,

Kent

chris, I have to say something negative too from time to time.
it is intresting that's for sure...
just have to handle those error conditions and it might be even usable...

what comes to errors on page, it can also be some browser version problem.
as I've had on some machines errors on every msdn-page. and some machines don't seem to get to the page at all.

heh, like the update site of ie is one example. you installed nt and choosed to update ie, you could not do that as the version (2 or something) could not open the update page... [Big Grin]

Whoops...
I didn't intend to start a riot! [Wink]
"Whatever_Omatic" is easier to use than wbemtest.exe when trying to enumerate what WMI info can be captured, with the added bonus of KiX script generation. Despite any limitations, it has saved me a whack of time and effort.

I think Chris has captured the essence of what I was trying to say...
