The problem is in the manual, correct call for addcombobox is :
$form.addcombobox("scantype",$frame3.left + 8,$frame3.top + 52,224,20)

(no label here, same as listbox)

For the broken part, here's the 2 states of a combobox :
1) a text area, where you can write with a dropdown box
2) a locked area, no write allowed with a dropdown box
The first state is not available due to a bug, and the fix MS provide doesn't apply with the VB language.
