I formated a diskette using IBM PC Dos with the /s parameter. I can re-boot this system from the diskette with no problem. However, when I attempt to view the contents of the diskette in a Windows 98 or Windows NT station, I see nothing. I have tryed several diskettes. what I am trying to do, is copy a file off of a particular computer, to use on an NT 4.0 computer. Are there compatability issues with PC-Dos and Microsoft??

You probably have your Windows Explorer set so it doesn't show system files. This is the default option & you must explicitly change it so system files show.

You know this boot disk may not be able to access WinNT files unless you formatted your NT system as FAT16.

PC-DOS is just a slightly modified IBM proprietory version of MS-DOS. To my knowledge there should be no formating differences between them. What version of PC-DOS is it?

Is this by any chance a very old 3.5 floppy drive. I think they were 780K drives. If so it is the diskette that is the problem. Your new floppy drive & old floppy disks are incompatible.

Strip your old floppy out of the old machine & put it in the new one. Make sure in the BIOS you set the correct drive type. Then you can read old style floppies.

I think I have heard of utilities that read old 780kb diskettes on a 1.44mb drive. Can not remember where though.
