I was hoping for an update to the DOS 16 bit version of kixtart. I use this version for my boot disks. I need the ability to write to a file. Currently it only has read priviledges. There are also more of the commands that would be nice to have from the newer 32 bit version.

With the latest version of 16bit Kix it's possible to do 32bit alike stuff. You only need some more programming. We use Kix too for our boot disks and we managed even to do some ini file reading !!

I do not see why the 16 bit version was dropped. There are people out here who still use the DOS\Windows 3.11 combination for work. All of our Scanning machines use dos as the OS.

will, I think it's more like m$ policy.
there is no support for them and that's it.

it's weird that ruud still keeps on support for win9x... well, he is not adding any.

I just want to add my name for continued support for the 16-bit version.

I too use the 16-bit version on DOS boot disks that I use for unattended installation of Windows.

I would like the "ReadProfileString" (et al) functions added to the 16-bit version. I could then evaluate my UDF.TXT file. I could check whether or not the machine I want to install Windows to has valid information in the UDF.TXT file.

I went to smoke and remembered that ruud already replied to this.
in short
quote:
As for KiXtart for DOS: the issue here is not so much that I don't want to extend/enhance the implementation, but that I'm limited by the available memory on DOS. The current implementation takes just about as much RAM as can be expected to be available during a DOS logon session.
