I use kix to start all applications on workstation and TSE in my company (the script read parameters in .ini files on servers and configure jus int time the workstation and TSE).

I would appreciate to be able to start directly some kinds of documents like .doc or .xls (and all others extensions defined) with a command like RUN("documentname.ext").
Now, I have an error 193 and with the command RUN("%Systemroot%\system32\cmd.exe /c documentname.ext"), the return code is 0 because cmd.exe starts correctly.

First of all, this belongs into the BEGINNER forum, Secondly, shouldn't the RUN command look like
code:
run '%comspec% /e:1024 /c /s start spreadsheet.xls'

without the parentheses.

not necessarily, as it is a window app that wil be running, it doesn't need a seperate environment

It does belong there, should get a moderator to move it... [Smile]

We can all be moderators (without delete rights anyway) advising newbies on etiquette.

Ch Melin does have the right to make his suggestion. There may be reasons that he doesn't want to spawn a DOS box. Granted, he errored on the syntax and if it were just a syntax question, Starters would be the proper forum.

There are a lot of wish list items for which there are work-arounds. That does not disqualify them for Suggestions.

And lets not forget one thing...

This board is english (UK types would call it American), with english syntax and english terms. While this is perhaps a majority in technical/MIS circles, we have a large contingent of 'foreigners' here. [Big Grin] Wasn't there a long discussion on how to pronounce Ruud's name. I have to read MCA's posts twice just to translate it.

We even have canucks here, and they cannot even decide what language to speak [Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Razz]

This isn't disparaging... many Europoeans speak several languages as well as speaking english better than many english types. (anyone from Louisana [Big Grin] ) I know just enough Spanish to get in a fight, and can ask how much is that beer in German.

perhaps the reason they can't figure out simple instructions, is that they can't/don't understand them.

not that they are stupid (like my users)

so why they would then ask for assistance if they can't understand the help they receive?
weird, ha?

Radimus:

I expect you to know how to order a beer in German since you've been stationed in Germany. And ordering beer is a means of survival over there.

1 If I was in Germany, that that means I'm in the Army.. That means I Don't work [Smile]
2 When I was in the army in Germany, I rarely came back from a night drinking before 2:00 am
3 I'm really in Tampa FL, which makes it 8:00pm now. and I can't drink like I used to, and the wife will not let me stay out late [Frown]

Okay, so if I read 1), 2), 3) correctly, then you should re-enlist in the Army [Big Grin]

Well...

This was me when I was in the army
(on the right)
And this is me now...

There is no going back.

On the plus side, I work for a government agency now, so I work even less now than I did then.

I think the little one makes it worth not being in the Army.

Oh, that reminds me of something else.

I will take a leave of absence from this board from June 15-28 because my wife and I will travel to Germany, visit relatives and friends, try to order beer, and do other fun things.

Anyway, I'll be back on the 29., maybe even with a new KiXtart Golf Tournament.

Just to let you guys know.
