School:

Under NT, you should be able to run a shortcut just like any other file. As usual, not too sure about 9x...

code:

break on

shell '%comspec% /c "m:\notepad.lnk"'

exit

How about this...

code:

break on

shell '%comspec% /c "c:\WINNT\profiles\Administrator.000\desktop\printers\T3Blac~1.lnk"'

exit

Shawn.

Watch out for that "Administrator.000" profile. You know the deal with that right ?

could be dealing with the local administrator VS the Domain Administrator accounts....

Yup - one should always use the following syntax when referencing the current user's profile ...

shell '%comspec% /c "%userprofile%\desktop\printers\T3Blac~1.lnk"'

Anyway... what's the value of @ERROR after your shell command ?

Hey Corsham, Why not check to see if Admin is logging on and have script just add shortcut to start menu then if normal use is logging on remove it during log in?

if this M Drive is a network drive also you can use \\server name\proggie instead of having it check for M Drive, when this is being ran in the script you must make sure that the mapping has already taken place, with useing the short cut in the start menu you know then all scripts are completed.

@error
?
@serror

exit

and heres the output
C:\kixtart>kix32 printers.kix

The operation completed successfully.

And the print manager still does not load

With all the gurus that have posted replies to this thread already and not mentioned this, there is probably a reason, but my first question when I read this script was "Why in the world are you running a *.lnk file?"

I have never found any need to run a lnk file as opposed to just running the app it points to. Referrencing the app itself would be the first thing I'd try. Also, I see a space in "TC 9.lnk". Wouldn't the correct referrence be "TC9.lnk" or TC9~1.lnk"?

I like Jim's idea.

Does it work if you just cut and paste the shortcut target string into a kix shell command ?

Else, I'm just suggesting variations on a theme here...

break on

shell '%comspec% /c start m:\test\notepad.lnk' ; use short fn's and no quotes

?"error=@serror"

exit

Shawn.
