I try to run a kix32 script on W95 client. During logon it is ignored totally. No error message, no hanging, NOTHING happens. After logon the same script can be run fine manually.
RPC is running on both PDC and BDC
Scripts are replicated
DLL files are copied to C:\SYSTEM
MSNET32 of the right version is running

1. What are the settings in user manager (Logon Script name)?
2. Are you emulating LMScript or not?
3. Are you calling kix from a batch file or not?
4. Is kix32.exe in the netlogon share or local on users machines?

In the Use Manager on the server did you enable using a logon script for the user? Also is the name of the enabled script correct?

I usually put the DLL & EXE in the netlogon share, incase a user doesn't have them on the local machine.

I have both the DLL's and the EXE on both C:\SYSTEM and NETLOGON.

There are no misspellings or whatsoever the script file is called IT.SCR

I tried both to execute the scrit directly and from a batch file.

I think I have tried everything but a tiny little thing that is the cause of it not functioning. So please any tips and hints are very very welcome!!!!

Sounds like your logon script is not executing. You are not answering the question about checking the logon script name in User Manager. Usually this is a Bat file. something like "logon.bat" and this in turn calls "kix32.exe it.scr".

On Win95 clients it can optionally be done a little differently using LMScript emulating. You did not answer this question either. It makes a difference.

Hi,

As I said I both tried directly to execute the kix script and by calling it from a batch file. Neither workt.
And I am not using LMScript emulation or whatsoever.
Do you think I should? I mean, are the advantages in doing so?

We don't use lmscript emulation. I think it is just one more thing to worry about.

Run Kix from a bat file with "echo on" as the first command. Put test messages at the startup up of your kix file. Got to the DOS prompt & execute your bat file "test.bat". Send the output to a file.

"test.bat > test.txt"

You just got to be getting an error message here if kix is not running. What is it?

The problem is that the script (undependable on wheter it is a bat-file or a kix-script) does not run at all. It works fine when I log in and then manually start it (both bat-file and kix scriptfile). It is like the login procedure stops after connecting to the server.

And I forgot to tell again that the script runs fine if I start it manually. Both by running in a batch file and by executing "kix32 script.scr".

I have an NT4.0 network with NT and W95 clients. One Domain, one PDC, one BDC. All necessary files on both DC's and on the W95 clients.

This does not sound necessarily like a problem with kixtart but rather maybe a general problem with the execution of logon scripts. Will a logon script run without kixtart in it? In your user manager on the server have you set the name and location of the logon script for all your users?

No, I have not set the location.
"Kix32 login.scr" is what I have set in the login field in User Manager.
This works fine for all NT clients.
If I use a similar script in a batch file and call the batch file for the W95 clients it works fine too. I thaught integrate the both and write one script that works both for NT and W95. But it simply doesn't workt.
Sniff sniff...

Create a bat file with the following in it:
echo.
echo.
echo Test to find login script problem !!
pause
%0\..\kix32 it.kix
rem END

If you place this bat file in your “User Manager, Profile, Logon Script Name” and login on a win95 PC, it should display the message "Test to find login script problem!!" if not you've got a general login script problem. If this works the command %0\..\kix32 it.kix should work for both 95 and NT workstations. You can read more about this command in the manual.

If this is a general login script problem you can use Technet to find a solution to your problem.
