do not use this code unless you are immune to office politics.

Fill badapps with offensive apps at your desire, and call this run this script in a seperate process.

code:
$badapps=split("aim,aol,sol,freecell",",")

$=setconsole("hide")
:check
for $app =0 to ubound($badapps)
$program=$badapps[$app]+".exe"
$=findproc(@wksta,$program,1)
next
sleep 15
goto check

FUNCTION FindPROC($COMPUTER,$PROC,optional $terminate)
dim $GetObject, $Select
$GetObject="winmgmts:{impersonationLevel=impersonate}!//$COMPUTER"
$select="select * from Win32_Process where Name='$PROC'"
For each $Process in GetObject("$GetObject").ExecQuery("$select")
if $terminate $Process.Terminate endif
$FindPROC= $FindPROC+ " " +$Process.ProcessId
Next
ENDFUNCTION

Rad, very nice ... but I'm having a bit of difficulty. Would you classify netscape.exe as a bad app, or an offensive one ?

hehee - had to think about that for a while did yeah C ?

I'm just being a sh*t disturber today Rad [see Favorite Text Editors]. Truefully, Netscape is causing us much grief on the platform of late. Seems the Netscape cache (fat.db or something) is getting corrupted and chewing up ALL available memory ... wkstns slowly grind to halt ... you know the rest. Apparently an obscure but known issue. Im just venting but if I could run your script against our platform, well ...

Well, we have had issues with netscape also... specifically various versions having differences with enforcing proxy settings and such.

as I'm sure you are aware, this will not prevent someone from starting an application, but it certainly will prevent someone from using it, if it kills it every 15 or 30 seconds...

AD with GPO can handle this better, but I don't jave that available yet.

I have just re-read your script, and you are a person after my own heart.!

I did try deleting the SOL.EXE and CARDS.DLL files, but my users managed to reinstall them again and again.

So, I changed the windows INF file to not list them as an installale application. I also replaced the M$ CAB file with one without the files in.!

A bit extreme, but I was having a slow day.

This is such a classic script. Easily one of the most fun I've seen in a while!

New challenge:

Users with no internet access (proxy disabled) must be allowed to visit one internet-address (for this they need proxy).

So is it possible to:
  • close all existing internet explorers
  • remember current proxy settings (yes, readvalue...)
  • apply correct proxy settings (yes, writevalue...)
  • start new explorer window with specified address (yes, createobject...)
  • prevent users from starting explorer again
  • if KiX explorer windows is closed restore previous proxy settings
  • allow new explorer windows
Running W95, KiX 4.11, WMI installed (not started automatically) <-- need more info???

Patrick, would you mind posting this as a new topic? Your question is pretty unrelated to this thread and warrants a new thred.

Jens,

I didn't find it unrelated since Radimus shows a way to kill running apps. I'd like to use this too...

But anyway, just to please you:
Run IE and enable proxy only for this windows

Does this script work on Win9X ? I tried but it does not seem to work, I hope I'm doing something wrong because I could sure use this bad boy. You see I work for a school district and everytime I remove the programs the kids just bring they in again. I'm slowly move to Xp but till thats here I need some way to stop the apps from running.

Thanks

you need to have WMI installed... Beyond that, I'm not sure...
