I did the

if "%OS%" == "Windows_NT"

bit and works well...

I guess I wanted to echo it so I could see what server was actually takin the logon.. so I could see mainlly... I guess this is not an option no longer with the way it works (echoin back the logon server)

well, you can see it with that.
but lserver macro works too [Wink]

logonserver variates between the responders by the elegation of the quickest surviver.

this means that the servers always send me first me wants.
if there is one that is quick to one subnet (we have one that wants to take all logons [80-90%]) it will get there.

it does not matter in the long run as there is always the issue of quick service and this way the clients get the quickist logon...

{edit}
if you want to see that others respond too, kill (stop [Wink] ) the netlogon service on the server1 and see are people still getting logged on...

Another thing I've noticed that helps a bit(in terms of balancing) is to place a GCS at each remote location. I've noticed less traffic across our WAN (except of course during replication). Just a thought.

I just did a basic logon.bat though.
code:
%0\..\kix32 logon.kix

Works fine on all machines. Except I have to install the DSClient on the Win9x machines. [Roll Eyes]

Nuff rambling...

civic, if you say it works on all clients you don't have any winXP yet [Wink]

{edit}
also, if your logon.bat is that simple, you might do it same as I:
del your bat.
then in user manager script type:
kix32 logon.kix

I do have XP Pro. On a few workstations. The login executes just fine from that.
code:
@echo off
%0\..\kix32 logon.kix
EXIT

Dunno. Works ok for me on XP Pro, Win2k Pro & Win9x. I'm running Win2k servers.

Unfortunately I can't switch to just the Profile setting just yet. Some of the users travel from location to location. Since not all my machines are XP, I have to leave it as such.

One day I will eliminate these god-forsaken Win9x clients from my network! [Smile]

eh, how you can make this work as even m$ says it does not work?
normal %0 gives during logon:
\\server\share\something.bat

and xp gives:
"\\server\share\something.bat"

thus making %0\..\kix32 to be:
"\\server\share\something.bat"\kix32

instead of:
\\server\share\kix32

that's why I must wonder how it can work on your clients?

Since only Wintendo (9x/ME) needs %0\..\, using it on NT/2K/XP is not considered "Best Practice".

I detest ME because it seems to use drivers unlike any other version of Windows & only supplies those drivers for a very limited subset of components. It seems almost unusable on Pentium II or earlier machines. In a school environment, its MS' biggest dog in my opinion.

Having said that, we did some limited testing with it & I believe it integrates into a network fine.

XP home is something I have no familarity with but if it didn't come with at least some rudamentary networking, who would buy it? Doesn't everyone have a home network these days?

I don't think anyone buys it [Wink]

it's stupidly made inbuild for all basic computer packets.

like, dell is selling ok computers with xp home.

the computers with xp pro is 1000 €/$ more expensive...

Ahh well it works. That's all I can say. [Smile]

XP Home only allows you to network 5 computers and offer no domain support at all. That's part of the price tag difference.

edit:
I can't switch to using the setting in AD Users & computers yet. Have to rid my network of Win9x first....
