Hello,Well I ran head on into multiple full harddisks am yesterday, the problem a file called virscan.zip. A search of the Symantec site revealed the following...
Situation:
You are running one of the Virus Definition Update Installers from a network location. The updater never seems to stop running and eventually you start seeing messages that the hard drive is out of space. Eventually the system stops responding, and you must reboot. You find a Virscan.zip file in the Temp folder that has grown to fill what was formerly free disk space.
Solution:
After deleting the Virscan.zip file, copy the updater file to the local hard drive, then run it there instead. If invoking this file from a login script, you should change the script to copy the file to the local Temp folder, execute it from this local location, then delete the updater after it is done updating the definitions.
NOTE: The Virus Definition Update Installer is not a network-enabled application. It is recommended that you never execute it directly from a network location.
A snippet of my logon script....
;reads dates of the local NAV install
$CurDefs = ReadProfileString("C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec
Shared\VirusDefs\Definfo.dat","DefDates","CurDefs")
; Only date-part
$CurDefs = SubStr($CurDefs, 1, 8)
If $Error = 0 ; NAV Installed
; gets date and time of new virus defination
$Res = GetFileTime('@ldrive\VIUPDAT\Zdone.dat')
$VDate = SubStr($Res, 1, 4) + SubStr($Res, 6, 2) + SubStr($Res, 9, 2)
If $VDate > $CurDefs
; If needed runs the NAV update from \\FIREREC server
;===== original run stmt. ;Run '@ldrive\VIUPDAT\NAVUPDAT.exe /q'
;===== added next three to comply with symantec paper
copy "@ldrive\VIUPDAT\NAVUPDAT.exe" "c:\navupdat.exe"
run "c:\navupdat.exe /q"
del "c:\navupdat.exe"
EndIf
EndIf
Problem....
When this changed script runs it just hang for an nuknown amount of time (I killed it after 30 mins). Any suggestions on what I could be doing wrong?
Chris
