Hello everyone;

I'm new to kixtart scripting...I'm having a problem maping user's private folder in Windows 98SE, but I am able to map it in windows 2000 Pro and XP Pro. Can any one please help.
Here is my line:

Use I: "\\SERVER\PRIVATE" + @USERID

don't remember the topic but you could check faq and search...

anyway, win9x does not support deep mappings.
so if you want to connect user to their homedrive you would need to do something like:

Use I: "\\SERVER\PRIVATE"
shell "subst k: i:\@USERID"

anyway, the syntax isn't correct for w2k/xp either.
as it should be:

Use I: "\\SERVER\PRIVATE\" + @USERID

cheers-

Assuming you want to deep map, then you'd need to read the KiXtart manual Appendix A which makes it quiet clear that Windows 9x doesn't support deep mapping at all. Additionally, for Windows NT you'd need to SHELL out and use SUBST. Oh, and search the BBS for either 'YAMD' or 'map root'.

Youll have to share out your users directories im afraid if you want to map them via scripts to win9x clients.. Doubly so if you have Roaming users...

I share my users out and use the following.
code:

IF (Exist("h:\NUL") = 1)
USE h: /delete
ENDIF
$nul=DelKey("HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Network\Persistent\H")
USE h: \\[server name\+@userid+"$"

Hope this helps

Steve.

I tried these lines and all the other examples.
But it only maps the user to \\SERVER\PRIVATE and not the user.
Use I: "\\SERVER\PRIVATE"
shell "subst k: i:\@USERID"

yes, kxrpc service is running in my windows 2000 server domain controller....

I use hidden shares at the root of the server and use the following:

;Home Directory
$mrhshare = "\\mrhshared\"+@userid+chr(36)
USE H: $mrhshare

I'm running everything from W95 to XP Pro and it works swell.

I don't think you understand the hidden shares thing. Each user's folder needs to be shared out individually. So, the folder \users\user1 would be shared as User1$. Then you would map it as:
Use H: "\\server\User1$$"
or
Use H: "\\server\@UserID$$"
or
Use H: "\\server\"+@UserID+Chr(36)

Windows 9x cannot map like this '\\SERVER\SHARE\FOLDER' but only '\\SERVER\SHARE'.

Windows NT can map '\\SERVER\SHARE\FOLDER' if mapped using the SUBST command (needs to be shalled out)

Windows 2000/XP can map '\\SERVER\SHARE\FOLDER'

If you still don't understand this, then please read the KiXtart Manual Appendix A or search the UDF forum for the 'YAMD' UDF.
