Please Help!!
After I have logged on I can map the server and run the script through explorer. However at logon the script does not execute.
Yes, KXRPC is installed on the server.
Any Suggestions?

Is it just not running on 1 client, or is it many clients.

If many clients, check to make sure that you have replicated the contents of the \netlogon folder on the PDC to all of the BDC's

What kind of OS is on the workstations?

How do you call the script from the UserManager for domains?

Does the DOS-box start?

Does the system 'beep' when it tries to start the script?

Do you have the script(s) replicated between all Domain Controllers?

Are you trying to map the Z: drive in the script?

What version of Kix do you use?

Ok, the KIXRPC service is nice to have running, but you don't need it if you just want to run a script (it's only needed if you want to use certain MACRO's (like @LDOMAIN, @PRIMARYGROUP, e.d.))

What kind of OS is on the workstations? win 98 clients

How do you call the script from the UserManager for domains? have script1.bat in logon script entry.

Does the DOS-box start? no, nothing executes at logon.

Does the system 'beep' when it tries to start the script?
no

Do you have the script(s) replicated between all Domain Controllers? this is the only server on this domain.

Are you trying to map the Z: drive in the script? no

What version of Kix do you use? 3.6, off win 2000 resource kit disc.

Ok, what does your script1.bat look like?

It should look something like this:

%0\..\KIX32.EXE %0\..\LOGON.KIX

Does it?

(f.y.i the %0 variable represents the current path of the batch-file)

script1.bat
@echo off
\\server\netlogon\Kix32.exe \\server\netlogon\script1.kix
EXIT
or
@ECHO OFF
%0\..\Kix32.exe %0\..\Script1.bat
Exit
Both have same result. Work fine when executed manually but not through logon.

Hmmm, I'm stumped.

I can't test anything for you but maybe this has something to do with the

LASTDRIVE=

command? (I don't even know if W98 uses this)

I know that KIX tries to map the logon-share to the Z:\ drive to execute the scripts. Maybe you have a conflict there, because you're saying that the script works fine if you connect it manually.

could you try this in your batchfile?:
--------------------
net use Z: \\server\netlogon
Z:\kix32.exe Z:\script1.kix
---------------------

or play around with some other driveletters?

Roger is on to something there...or is that on something ...

Anyway, Are you saying that the logon script is not running at all, not even the bat file?

If the bat file is running put a pause command at the end of your batfile, and comment out the @echo off for debugging, so you can see what is going on.

Also put a "net use" before the pause command. On win9x computers, normaly the z: will show up mapped to the netlogon share of a domain controller.

Also, could you do this for us please. Go to a command line and type this command.

net user <username> /domain | find /i "Logon script"

replace <username> with the your domain username

let us know what the return was.

net user <username> /domain | find /i "Logon script" returns nothing.

when i say it doesn't execute i don't believe the batch file is being executed at logon. after entering a password nothing happens except normal windows loading.

i also tried changing my bat to include net use Z: \\server\netlogon
Z:\kix32.exe Z:\script1.kix
and this had no effect.

wait a sec... i am getting my commands/OS mixed up.

I think "net user" will only work on NT/win2k computers. So run "net user <username> /domain" on a NT box, your PDC.

bryce,
i ran "net user domain name /domain" and received an error "command user is unknown".
i ran the entire net user domain name /domain.... again and still no error or anything.
just out of curiousity, does active directory have anything effects on kixtart?

ahhhh now we are getting somewhere!

ok, remove the UNC path and just put script1.bat, in the Logonscript Name box in usermanager.

script1.bat should be something like this

%0\..\kix32.exe %0\..\logon.kix
