All right DOC! What say I give you one of mine and we'll be even. I'll be the first to admit you deserve them more than me. Your posts have far more substance... mine are mostly brain farts.

cool... good work.

A few things though.
It leaves Gator installed
you could use WMIKill() instead of PV.exe
(if that works in 3.63)

But I tell you what... I'm gonna put this in my script

Hi Rad.

Yes, I could use WMI, but then it would become VERY dependant on WMI being installed on the system. Very few Win9x and NT systems will have WMI installed. The only ones you can count on without doing the install yourself are 2000/XP

As far as Gator, not sure where you get/got that. I have installed Webshots on a few systems for testing this script, and none of them have Gator installed.

Maybe it was an older version of Webshots? I could try to find Gator and write a script for that as well if needed maybe.

For now I think the PV.EXE method would be the most universal method of guaranteeing a successful uninstall.

Guys,

You are going to hate me.. I use Webshots regularly from home. However, when you install, just simply choose the options to not install Gator or any of the garbage. I too have run Ad-Aware and none of the Gator or related stuff appeared after installing it.

I heartedly agree it has no place in the workplace as it soaks up bandwidth.

Kent,

Where did you get your download? I downloaded directly from Webshots and I don't get any options about any other software (Gator or others).

I used this download:

http://www.webshots.com/c/combo2/

Which gives you a combo sampler pack. If it is coming with Gator, I don't think Radimus and Dave are worried about themselves installing the Gator portion, but rather their end-users. That is the reason I wrote this script to remove it, but I did not know it was installing Gator for these guys - it does not install gator for me, and I don't chose any custom options during install.

you can see in the install log above where it installed:
RegDB Key: SOFTWARE\Gator.com\Trickler\Sessions\3ADDFD2F

They may have removed that in current packages... As I recall, It was in a list of optional components (selected) so the average click monkey would install it

Thanks DOC!

I did finally get my uninstall to work under 3.63, but it's not as nice as yours.

I'll probably switch to yours when I move to version 4.

Thanks again,

Dave

I know this is ancient history, But I was just asked this an hour ago...

Code:

if keyexist('HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Webshots Desktop')
$uninst=readvalue('HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Webshots Desktop','UninstallString')
$uninst = JOIN(SPLIT($uninst),' /a /s')
run '&comspec% /c '+ $uninst
endif
