Anyone know of a quick and handy way to force a desktop Auto Arrange of icons at the end of a script?

Hmm, actually what would be perfect is something I could use to force an icon to a certain spot on the desktop through the kix script. [Eek!] [Big Grin] [Confused]

Yep, originally that may have helped but I just found auto arranging is not an option anymore, what I would ideally like to do, I honestly dont think is possible using Kix.
I have 2 icons (Recycle Bin, My Computer) that are placed in the bottom right corner of the desktop, I dont want these to move. But these are the only Icons that are there until the kix script runs, then more icons are copied down. If autoarrange is present it yoinks all the icons to the left, Including the two I dont want to move. Ideally (and Im being difficult here) I would like the icons to be copied to a certain position on the desktop. Now, all I have searched in these forums and in Microsofts Technet has produced no registry options, nor can I find any in the registry myself. Honestly though its no biggie, I can live without it, I am just hoping someone else has encountered it before. [Big Grin]

If you "Auto-Arranged" my desktop, I'd have a few "choice" words for you which may include references to Auto-Arranging and anatomy.

Hehe, gee tell us what you really think Les [Big Grin]

Its only for the call centre.
For those restricted to a type of desktop.
Those in other areas, eg management, their icons are set by profiles.
And thanks for that AJH [Big Grin]

Phew! I thought it was the rise of another dictatorship.

Yeah, we have about 150 or so computers that are severely "locked down". They include kiosks and machines on the mill (factory) floor. I use a combination of policies, reg hacks, NTFS perms, and a product called Fortres.

well...
easiest way to do this kind of control is to have desktop as web page and have links in it.
then also changes are easy to accomplish and so on.

What I have works great, it is a single profile, locked down and mandatory, that has no icons (except the usual My Comp, and Recycle Bin)
It is also all locked up by policies.
What the script does is copy the icons down at login for Word, Excel etc, as each Call centre sub department uses different ones. And email is set via the registry. I find that is a lot faster than having the icons in the profile and also a lot more controllable. The only problem I have with it is the posistioning of the icons look ugly as they get copied over. Hence this topic [Big Grin]

The beauty of it all is, the profile, while mandatory is also roaming, and because I have policies set that suck the profiles off at logout, no matter what they stuff up, relog in and its all back the same. [Smile]
