I would like to run a short script at bootup (specifically for
laptops) that determines if the laptop is on a network or not (ie, going to
be using dial-up), and then installs a different registry key
based on the results. This needs to run on Windows 95/98 and on NT.

Has anyone done this or knows of a solution for this??

Thanks,
Glenn

Check this thread: http://kixtart.org/board/Forum1/HTML/001508.html

In it, I posted a solution on how to determine local or remote users by parsing the IP address.

Interesting, that's almost what I need. However, I was hoping for a more generic solution - the machines will be on different IP ranges as they are at different locations, and I was hoping to develop a generic install method.

Thanks,
Glenn

Have a play with the @RAS macro. Write a script that displays this and other interesting macros on notebooks connected remotely and locally and see what says what.

You should be able to find a combination of @RAS and maybe @LSERVER that you can check for.
