but comparing me to a maniacal mass murderer... 
I don't know what your job is, but if you were part of a skeleton IT crew responsible for hundreds of PCs in an 24/7 industrial setting, how would you make sure they kept running? BTW, you'd be on call 24 hours too.
I've got users doing every conceivable thing to PCs. When I lock up the PC, they sabotage the keyboard and mouse. I replace them with a touchscreen and they complain they don't like to have to lift their hand up to the screen. I give them a new mouse, they break it or remove the ball. I give them an laser mouse, they steal it. They even put a pickaxe through one PC.
