I was able to run a script that allowed me to edit the environment variables on a Win 9X machine using the SHELL command with WINSET. I have not been able to do the same with Windows NT Workstation. The Environment variables seem to disappear after the script file exits.

Try using set, setl, and setm on NT workstations.
