I am writing a script to 'survey' every machine on our network. The 'survey' is launched at the desktop by members of a 'survey team'. I have been unsuccessful at incorporating msd.exe into the kix script. I attempted to shell this command in the script
"%COMSPEC% /e:1064 /c c:\demerge\msd.exe /p report.msd" but msd performs 'an illegal operation' and must be terminated. This causes my entire script to terminate. So, I paused the script with a MESSAGEBOX(,,16) instructing the surveyor to run msd.bat, and once finished click on 'ok'. I open report.msd and readline(#) until it finds "Physical Station Number:" <-- Win95 or "NetBIOS Card Information:" <-- Win98. I am working with a mixed (NT / Novell) network. I don't know which one is leasing out IP addresses. IPCONFIG = 'bad command or file name'.

Is there some Exe Dll parameter passing combination that WINIPCFG uses to display the Adapter Address?

Does "winmsd.exe" work on win95? We use it on NT machines during login, started by a kix-script.

Looked into it a little further (funny how a "clear and loud : No Sir !" can open up a can of motivation! *grin*)...
What I think I'm missing is what you'd like to know after running your "survey". If it's just the Adapter Address, am I a complete pop-tart if I suggest the @ADDRESS kix macro?

if you are intresting of the MAC address take a look to a script I wrote :
http://www.geocities.com/gravital_sun/scripts/netscan_kix.zip

I extract the MAC address there but I did not use it. You can get some good ideas from there I think ...

Another program for survey you can find at http://home.wanadoo.nl/scripting .
The McAfee.kix creates automatically a survey file. At that point you will find the related topic of [b]http://kixtart.org[/url] site.
Greetings.

3MGrant5 (what DOES that stand for??) >> Always glad to be of service... *grin*

Novastar >> That netscan-script is quite the little gem! I haven't used it yet (all I did so far is translate the script to be able to 'understand' a dutch ping-session).
Only - I'd like for it to show the hidden shares on a remote machine as well... and I haven't been able to find any command-line tool that does. Anyone?

And I've exchanged the two tools Global.exe and Local.exe for NTUSER.exe (a tool from pedestal software/ a company that do not reprisent in any way whatsoever) because it has some more capabilities... just a personal preferance.
