I would like to build a new feature that copies bookmarks to the station when a user logs on. Problem is, how are newly created bookmarks copied back to there homedir when the client logs off.
Does anyone have an idea about this???

Thanks,
Marck

Dear,

There are different ways:

  • There is a shutdown monitor program at the internet which can run any kind of program during shutdown.
The way of saving your bookmarks differs for Netscape and IExplorer. The registry contains information about the possible locations, but additional. actions can be necessary.
  • You are using roaming profiles which data will be transfered to your server during a shutdown action.
  • Change the registry keys to a folder on your server (f.e. user-home folder BOOKMARKS) and change netscape PREFS.JS / LIPREFS.JS at your local workstation to the same user-home folder.

Greetings.

We are using IE5. It would be much easier to save the bookmarks directly to the users homedir.
I didn't know that was possible.

Hi MCA

I just took a look in the w95 reg, and I couldn't find any key that changes the save location of the ie5 bookmarks.
Do you know wich key I need to change

Thanks,
Marck

Marck:

You might want to try doing something like this in the logon script:

code:

break on

$shellfolders = "Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders"

$rs = writevalue ( "$shellfolders", "favorites", "%homeshare%\favorites", "REG_EXPAND_SZ" )

exit

Shawn.

Why ?

Because IE5 setup is over-writting your settings for new users (new profiles) ?
