Mit- We just experienced this same problem quite randomly across our local network. We are still working towards a global fix (which I will post as soon as attained) but in the meantime the affected laptop users were not synchronized with the network because of a server outage. When the laptops were connected to the network during the downtime the users could not sync up to their shared folders or mapped drives that referenced to the downed server. When the server came back up we experienced the exact same problem. Once we manually remapped the shares and drive mappings and disabled the sync it ran fine with no problems. The long of the short of it is that the synchronization option really pissed off the laptop and wasn't necessary to our environment so we killed it. Hope any of this helps...
