You could use regshot on one machine to find the setting you need to change
Dump your reg, change settings, dump reg again and compare.
In 2K and NT4 it's here:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop in the screensaveactive value (0 = OFF 1 = ON).

The screensave.exe value shows the active screensaver. There are some more values for your screensaver here.

W9x could be the same don't know for sure because I can’t check on 9x now. This key does not exist in 9x until after logon as I recall correctly, so you need to do this after logon. There is some info on that on the board, try the search.
Hope I pushed you in the right direction.

The regshot site has been down for some days now so you can get regshot from here: http://ftp.pcworld.com/pub/new/utilities/other/regshot161a.zip

The screensaver takes the password from the logged on user. So if the machine goes on screensaver mode and you take it out of screensaver mode it should ask for the logged on users password if the security option is set.

Like said can't test on 9x now will check tomorrow if I can find some time and a 9x machine.

ja...
secure screensaver in wintosh is different than NT-based os'es.
it requires person to type their password and it has nothing to do with the logon-password

I believe on Win9x machines part of the screensaver setting are embedded in the control.ini file. If you read MCA's code that is refered to in the above link then you will see the extra settings needed for Win9x.

Jooel could be right though about the 2 passwords being independant though. It is a while since I worked with Win9x so a test is in order.
