I have 2 locations both running NT 4 SP6a as the PDC's. I'm using the same exact script in both locations and my secondary loaction will not map U: to the hidden user share. The clients are mixed 98se/2k/xp pro. I can manually map the drive so I'm at a loss. Here's the code.

Break on
Call "@SCRIPTDIR\udf.kix"

Use F: \\clwprime01\sys
Use I: \\clwprime01\apps
Use M: \\clwprime01\data
Use G: \\clwprime01\aty
Use H: \\clwprime01\vol1
Use J: \\clwprime01\vol1
Use S: \\clwprime01\share
Use V: \\clwprime01\users
Use U: '\\clwprime01\'+@USERID+'$$'

If (@inwin = 1)
? "NT"
Else
? "W9x"
EndIf

:NT
If 0=Exist('U:\TEMPLATES\')
MD U:\Templates
EndIf
Copy '%appdata%\MICROSOFT\TEMPLATES\*.*' 'U:\Templates'
Run "\\clwprime01\scan\scan32.exe"
Exit

:W9x
If 0=Exist('U:\TEMPLATES\')
MD U:\Templates
EndIf
Copy 'C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\MICROSOFT\TEMPLATES\*.*' 'U:\Templates'
Run "\\clwprime01\scan\scan32.exe"
SetTime "\\clwbinary1"

Exit

Hopefully someone can help me out. Thanks!

Use
code:
Use U: '\\clwprime01\'+@USERID+'$$'
? 'Error '+@ERROR+' - '+@SERROR

to display the error code for the failed connection?

How are these two locationsset up? Do they have the same server names even though they are separated networks?

btw, you might want to keep quoting your strings or you will get amazed later on again [Wink]

I see from your previous topic that you had them set up properly.
Use F: \\clwprime01\sys

should be:
Use F: "\\clwprime01\sys"

The setup for the servers are pretty much the same. Names are different and both locations have their own domain. The servers are named as to the location of the office.(CLW & TPA)
The only big difference is in the TPA office I have a 2k server where the users hidden shares are located.
I set the quotes and error check. It appears to be working. Now the 98 machines are not copying the files to the folder it creates in the hidden share. Time to investigate that.
Thanks

Clayton,

as we have specific members here that really get allergical shocks if I just mention 'goto' I'd like to advise you to do the following :

Break on
Call "@SCRIPTDIR\udf.kix"

Use F: "\\clwprime01\sys"
Use I: "\\clwprime01\apps"
Use M: "\\clwprime01\data"
Use G: "\\clwprime01\aty"
Use H: "\\clwprime01\vol1"
Use J: "\\clwprime01\vol1"
Use S: "\\clwprime01\share"
Use V: "\\clwprime01\users"
Use U: '\\clwprime01\'+@USERID+'$$'

If not exist('U:\TEMPLATES\')
MD U:\Templates
EndIf

If @inwin = 1
Copy '%appdata%\MICROSOFT\TEMPLATES\*.*' 'U:\Templates'
Else
Copy 'C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\MICROSOFT\TEMPLATES\*.*' 'U:\Templates'
EndIf

Run "\\clwprime01\scan\scan32.exe"
$_ = SetTime( "\\clwbinary1" )

Exit 1

Don't hesitate to ask if you have more questions...

hope this helps

lol, I'm actually packaging 4.21 as an upgrade to our environment as we speak ! (we're still running 3.5x believe it or not). Going to be deploying in a few months ... and I'm happy just thinking about it ... [Wink]

Truthfully, 4.21 seems to be the best release since (oh, way back) to 4.02 ... dont think I would touch anything other than those two.

you bastard.
I'm glad that your environment is quite tight so you can't expirement everyday live [Big Grin]
well, I think I still have 4.20 rc-2 as our logonscript processor [Wink]
but it runs kixforms lot better than 3.55 or 3.53 [Razz]

rofl. ja our environment is very tight. Have to have a damn good reason to change anything. We have a whole group dedicated to "change management" ... they're called "Change Management" (seriously) ... kinda like the long-line police of changes ...

But there never been a burning need to upgrade, although on a couple of incidences, it would have been real nice to have 4.21 out there ... oh well ...

I'm on 4.21 only because I'm learning as I go. I didn't have anything major setup when I started playing with Kix. Hopefully I'll be able to g=start doing some kool stuff although I'm limited with 90% of my machines being 98se. [Frown] Hopefully that'll change soon.

I bet there is some higher power saying that every penny is worthwhile and then he wonders why your work can be so hard [Big Grin]

Budget meeting last year.
Me - I recommend upgrade to W2K on all servers and at least W2K on the desktops.

Them - Ummm... Is that really necessary?

Me - Well it would help stability and everyone crashing.

Them - We're doing ok now maybe next year.

LOL
So I'm still stuck with 98 se. Sucks to be me! We may be moving offices next year and getting new PC's so hopefully I can get them to upgrade the servers too....

yes, you did it little wrong [Big Grin]
you would have needed to praise NT.
then they say: "ok, it is better. lets do that"
then, as it is prised as w2k, you would have your clients all as w2k.
and last year, you probably would have got and cheap agreement with MS.

I've been running windows9x clear network for about 2 years and NT clear network for about 6 months.
I still run on NT DC's! [Big Grin]

and am not in hurry.
I have a co-worker that has been running in the courses for the last 2-3 years about AD and nothing gets done.
will see if I take him over next year and really make it happen with w2k3 servers...
but until that, I'm having no rush.

anyway, you must keep in mind that you are the one in control.
if they say that you are running fine, show them a chart how many work hours everyday you spend on supporting the stupid win9x.
you fight and you always win.
it's simple... [Big Grin]

I'll give it a shot next time. At least We got them to upgrade their SQL server and dump the Novell 3.12 server. I guess I can't complain. The bad thing is it's hard to convince attorney's to spend money. [Big Grin]

no. [Big Grin]
that's the whole point.
as long as you know that you know more about computers than they do.
or at least, you can pretend to know. [Wink]
that is the whole point.
that is what they do.
that is what I've done for some time now.
that is what has worked.
they feel powerless when they meet someone that can read their cards and shoot back with some techno-talk they can't understand and even be convincing!

play their game and you will mostlikely win every time.
