[Moderator (Sealeopard): Moved thread from 'Scripts' to 'Starters' forum due to lack of script in body]

Heres the scenario...

80 XP Pro users connected to an NT server.

To reduce the load on the main server have added all printers (around 30) to another NT4 BDC server.

Problem..
Printers were set up as local ports, ie map to \\[server name]\[Printer Name]

Now this server name has changed.. Is there a way to 1. add the new port, 2. configue the printer over to use the new port and then 3. finally delete the old port?

I think I can do step 2 by changing the port value in
HKLM\SYSTEM\SurrentControlSet\Control\Print\printers
once the port has been added.

I have also looked at the ADDPRINTERCONNECTION command, but I want to keep the exisitng drivers and not replace them with the drivers on the server. (Basically as we have had serious problems with directing unix traffic to our HP printers through XP)

Any ideas??

While this may not be the complete solution.. Have a look here - Printer Migration

Thanks for the link Kent.

I got the code working fine but (aint there always a but...)

The problem I have is that all the current printers are setup as local ports pointing to the PDC. I get problems if I try to install the printers direct from the add network printer wizard (See MS Knowlegde base Q314073) and this is why we went the local port method.

Does anyone know a way of adding a printer port and migrating them over? Basically exactly what the script Kent linked to does for network printers.

(Appologies for posting initial message in wrong board and for *hijacking* the thread from Kent.)
