From what you say above, there is no relationship between the current file name and the new file name and that there may be files already in existence with the correctly formed file name. Is this the case?
Given a little time, I think that I could whip up a compiled Perl program would make short work of this.
We can also put together something in KiXtart, but I think that the regular expression engine and hash support would be a benefit.
