we have a mixed mode win2k domain, two DC's booth win2k, i use kix32_420 (the newest release) to share the loginscript on XP an NT4.0 clients. it works fine and is a nice, easy but powerfull thing.
my problem:
if i change a groupname in the Active Directory (or a nother tool like hyena4.5) the kixtart ignore the new groupname?
it doesnt work? in the kix script i have to use the old names?

in the admin console in the AD the names are new KS_Bln and the PRE WINDOWS 2000 NAME is new too
on a client at the commandline i use
net user bla /domain
the new name is shown [Frown]

aniything is wrong there... and the madness is i changed 5 - 9 groupnames wait a day (24 hours?) and 2 groups are working fine with the new name but the other groups doesnt [Confused]

do you have any idea?
what can i do?
i now have double entrys and double IF questions but this isnt fine...

Hello and welcome fellow German [Big Grin]

This may be caused by the new token Cache introduced in v. 4.11 (?)

Anyway, here's what the manual says :

quote:
Group-membership information.
Introduction.
KiXtart provides functions to test or enumerate the group-membership of the current user (specifically: InGroup() and EnumGroup()). These functions operate on an in-memory list of groups the user is a member of. This list is filled once during every KiXtart session (in other words: once every time you run KIX32.EXE).

Previous versions of KiXtart always queried the logonserver for the group-membership information. This provided information on both local and global groups in the logondomain. As of KiXtart 2001, KiXtart retrieves group-membership information using the security token of the current user. The benefit of the new method is that KiXtart can now support universal groups as well as nested global groups.

Note
Because a security token is created during the logon of a user and does not change while that user is logged on, changes to the user’s group-membership are not visible to KiXtart until the next time the user logs on.

Group-membership information cache.
As both methods of retrieving the group-membership are relatively costly in terms of network traffic and process time the latest update of KiXtart caches the group-membership information in the registry. This means that once the cache is filled, subsequent runs of KIX32.EXE will require much less time to retrieve the group-membership information.

The group-membership cache is stored in the registry hive of the current user and contains security-identifier-to-groupname mappings. Changes to a user's group-membership are automatically handled by KiXtart during the next logon.

Note
If an existing group is renamed, that change will not be visible to KiXtart until the next time the token-cache is refreshed.

The cache is automatically refreshed every 30 days.

A refresh of the cache can also be forced using the new '/f' commandline option:

KIX32 /f

Optionally, you can include a date, indicating how old the cache must be for it to be refreshed:

KIX32 /f:2001/12/31

Note
The group-membership cache feature of KiXtart is only available on Windows NT or higher.

Cool !

For all non-german speaking :

It worked ..

Ps.: the reason to introduce the cache was indeed performance boost at logon , so one might consider other solutions than the /f switch [Wink]

Hint: the search functionality on Scripts forum to search for related topics will bring up the one or other

Hello 4sk

I'm glad that Jochen was able to help you. In order for others to be able to help you in the future it would be best to write in English.

Your first posting here on this thread was good enough English for others to help you.

Hey, we put up with Lonkero's broken English.. now he actually writes English much better. [Razz]

So we just continue this in English

There are other questions unanswered, sorry :

  • The cache is in HKCU\Software\Kixtart\TokenCache
  • The page I found this was 18 of Kix2001.doc (distributed with the Kixtart executables)
Hope that helps

Though I do enjoy reading German every once in a while I also prefer posts to be in English. However, if your code contains e.g. comments in German that should be fine.

4sk: Please take a look at the FAQ Forum to find answers to commonly asked questions and use the KiXtart BBS Search as this topic has already been discussed multiple times.
