I have a similar question along these lines:

One thing I've been doing (besides searching like mad to find the answer) is trying to beat Internet Explorer into submission.

One thing I *hate* is that (&%&$^%# msn page.
now the url is along the lines of "http://www.microsoft.com/=msnhome"
I did some searching in the registry and the key resides in the HKLM and HKCU (and I *think* the HKU\.default key, I forget).

Now, knowing that a couple of my users *gasp* like the msn page (not redirected, btw) I'd like to specifically test for that condition/key.

I've honestly got enough brain cells left after building a SAMBA box as a PDC/DNS/DHCP/etc to copy and paste code and modify a bit or two (so far my kix scripting attempts have been horrible failures).

So, for instance:
Under HKLM(and HKCU)\software\microsoft\something\internet explorer "start page" ='s http://ms.com/redirect=msnhome
If the key is found, set it to google.com or something.

I'd also like to rip outlook express out by its roots...but that is for another day....
