When i use DelKey to try and delete a key from the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT hive i get an errorlevel 5 "Access Denied", i really want to find a way of deleting the key from that hive, i know security is tight on that hive but i have even tried altering the security on it as a test to allow Everyone full control but to no avail DelKey just doesn`t want to do it, does ne1 hav ne ideas on a new approach to this or a solution?
don't think KiX can do if you aren't able to do it interactively with Registry Editors ... CLASSES_ROOT is kind of 'extremely system vital' and therefore in some Subkeys protected in a 'protect from User' - way
The Key in question is a messenger installer key as i am working on a messenger removal addon for our logon scripts to stop users messin about on it hehe here is the key:
If i can eva get rid of it via the logon script since i`ve also looked at regedit and regedt32`s command line switches and can`t find one as such yet to delete keys, guess i`m gonna hav to search for a third-party app that does hehe Oh joy
Its ok its kool now if i import a reg file using Shell and regedit which has all the keys that would normally be present in the location above buuut i changed all the values to " " (space) which in effect prevents MSN Messenger 5.0 install outright with a crash error code of:
( MSN Messenger setup has failed with error code "1638" )
You will need to use an account with administrative privileges in order to delete that key. You can use REGEDT32 to take a look at the registry key's ACL.
