EveryoneAll EveryoneAll Fresh Scripter Registered: 2002-11-23 Posts: 16 Loc: Singapore	Hi, Extract from Microsoft KnowledgeBase Article 163723: "Although the KiXtart documentation does not mention it, Msvcrt.dll is required for KiXtart to run" Appreciate your advise if it's true that the file MSVCRT.DLL is required in the netlogon directory? Thks.

All these standard DLL's should be pathed-up and located in system32 - else something stinketh ! Is this just one of your machines, or all of them ? [ 10. EveryoneAll EveryoneAll Fresh Scripter Registered: 2002-11-23 Posts: 16 Loc: Singapore	I've got both Win95, 98, 2K and XP machines (majority is Win2K, in progress of migrating PC OS). Interestingly, I'm using KiXtart 4.1x on Win2K Adv Svr DCs (in AD), without running KXRPC service on the DCs or the MSVCRT.DLL file in NetLogon. And, I've not seen any problem on the pilot Win9x/2K machines (abt 10) yet. However, I'm just concerned if it'll create any problem or instability issues in the future. Anyone can confirm if it's still required for KiXtart 4.1x, as the KB article is targetting at KiXtart 3.21. Thks.

I would however install the KXRPC service. I think in my case a lot of machines didn't have msvcrt.dll installed at the time so found it easiest to put it in NetLogon. IIRC, all the DLLs required by KiXtart are installed on the OS by default. _________________________ There are two types of vessels, submarines and targets.

kholm kholm Korg Regular Registered: 2000-06-19 Posts: 714 Loc: Randers, Denmark	Like Sealeopard says: No DLL problems on ’virgin’ systems – not even 95 using KiX 4.12 (If KxRPC for KiX 4.12 is installed) Using Dll´s from netlogon instead of %Windir%\System32 or %Windir%\System might make logon from KiX complete successfully. BUT if 'bad' versions exists in the system directory, programs that depends on these DLL's will crash anyway, if the installed DLL´s are wrong. I have had one experience this week where I had to track the DLL´s used by a program. In this situation, it showed up that NT+ DLL´s where installed on a Win9x workstation. How to track DLL dependencies: Start the failing application on a workstation where the application works, and use a tool like pv.exe to extract the dependant DLL/OCX files names and versions, and compare these values to the version-info for the failing workstation. A lot of these wrong DLL´versions could come from BAD install scripts where the installer installs its own DLL’s: Always If the version installed is different – assuming the one in the install is always the newest -Erik
