Jooel, we have had success using robocopy with the "/sec" option for move the file system security. Do you have permissions on the shares as well? We do not put perms on shares as this is extra managerial overhead we avoid.

Subinacl.exe is a program that can do wonders for you.
We are in the process of migrating data from a nt4 member server to a W2K member server where security is handled via member server local groups.
We robo copied the data using "/sec" to the new W2K server. The result is that the file and directory ACLs referenced the SIDs of the groups from the NT4 local groups.
We created new groups on the W2K server using my GpMaint and populated them with the master domain accounts.
Subinacl to replace the NT4 server SIDs with the SIDs of the W2K server groups.

I suggest that NTFS permissions are better than applying permissions to shares. Is there a debate that will ensue from this statement?

That's is a great discussion for another time.
I have just created a share on my workstation using the security descriptor from a share on a remote server. I have tested both NT4 to W2K Pro and W2K server to W2K Pro).
If all you need to do is create shares on a new server using the security of a remote share, I can wrap this up into Win32Admin.DLL. [ 08. December 2002, 21:17: Message edited by: Howard Bullock ]

The "/sec" options will copy the existing file/directory permissions that existed on the source files. If they as you have said were set with "no" permissions (everyone FULL), then no harm done unless the new parent directory has some other permissions preset.
