johnosborne johnosborne Lurker Registered: 2002-11-25 Posts: 3 Loc: UK, Suffolk	As a complete novice... I want to run a script that sets the domain name as Windows 98 clients log in to a Win2000 server. At the moment students frequently change the default domain name that comes up in the login box, and this obviously creates problems.. Any ideas please?

Jack Lothian Jack Lothian MM club member Registered: 1999-10-22 Posts: 1169 Loc: Ottawa,Ontario, Canada	In the control panel under network setup set the Must be validated by NT domain. (This can also be set by a registr edit. (Do a board search for the exact key.) Then if they change the domain the machine will not let them login. This has been discussed several times on the board. It is a DOS replacement for the kixtart & the KXRPC service. I can't see how that helps. Re Les' comment, Yes there are policies for freezing network setting but I believe they all apply to trying to change them through the control panel. I don't believe they apply to changing the domain in the logon box. In Win9x this can be done but it is painful. You must leave the user no other option but to logon to a legitimate domain. _________________________ Jack
