Hi

I have a script set up to install Mcafee virus scanner if it is not installed on a machine
This works fine with windows XP+2000+nt
but with Windows 98 the installer package comes up with a error saying that the file is corrupt or missing .

The strange thing is that if I browse to the setup file and runit it works fine.

Has anyone any Ideas ?

Thanks

Are you trying to install from the logon? If so, then you have to hold the script until the install is complete.

Wintendos do a smoke and mirrors with a temporary Z: drive mapping during the logon and tear it down after. You may be able to do it by mapping to the drive where the install is.

I not sure if it relevant but Win9x maps the netlogon share to the Z drive during logon. Maybe you are picking an inappropriate file due to this mapping.

In theory, Shell should wait, but often on silent installs does not. I abhor McAfee, choosing to use NAV (SAV) instead, so cannot vouch for the behavoir of the install. Sometimes, Start /W may aid in that.

From what I know about McAfee, EPO is the way to go.

What is $appsPath? Is it a mapped path or a UNC?

headbanger,

Double-check your switches for the installs (f.e. read the Tech Docs from Network Associates)..

New VirusScan
code:
$VScanLocation = "\\is\Software_Applications\McAfee\antivirus\vscan4.5"
RUN $VscanLocation+"\SETUP.EXE ADDLOCAL=ALL REMOVE=SendVirus REMOVEINCOMPATIBLESOFTWARE=True REBOOT=F /q /i"

Here is one that we used to update the Service Pack for McAfee:
code:
$VSCANSP1 = "\\IS\Software_Applications\McAfee\antivirus\vscan4.5Sp1"
RUN $VSCANSP1+"\VSC45SP1.exe /silent"

HTH,

Kent
