I built my first Sinclair from a kit. I also built my own EPROM burner for a COCO. EEPROMS came much later. I would erase my EPROMS on a sunny window ledge. It'd take about two weeks on the inside and much faster on the outside.
Dabbled in BASIC but quickly figured out that machine code was where the power was. Then I discovered assembly and thought I was in heaven! Only prob was, I didn't like programming for anyone other than myself, and so ended my career as a programmer.
