Could not connect to any of the manual index makers so did my own independent page.
if this has enough need, could ask for henri to add to his server.

anyone who has ever wanted quick way to find something from kix doc this is something you should try on:
Kix2001 HTML manual
if someone wants to get manual for 4.02, it's in here:
http://www.gwspikval.com/jooel/scripts

any comments improvements or critics are more than wellcome.

btw, this is followup for discussion in:
Manual Index for 4.02

Lonkero,

Very cool! Personally, I like it.

One question though..
Can you get this into a .CHM format for portability?

Whould would also be helpful for a new user, is examples in the Macros Section. I would be happy to work with you on that.

Thanks again,

Kent

kent,
isn't kixlogic (read scriptlogic) doing a chm file?

I did this html file just and only for everyone's access (even unix-users get it [Smile] .
chm is not so widely supported.

the macro's section...

I was thinking, if I need to ask ruud about changing the content of the file.

also if he has the doc original in other than word-format could be much simpler to convert it to proper html.

for 4.10 we/I could add some complexity to that page. as an example:
-add links also to macro's
-split the side bar to say command-, function- and macro-reference
-upper border could have switces to other help topics, like starters quide etc.

Jooel,

What about flagging commands that are specific to 4.x vs, 3.x, etc.?

I know that there are specific changes based on the version. I know you created this for 4.02. Maybe this thought would cloudy the water. Oh well..

Thanks,

Kent

mm...
do you mean that I could like color kix4 specific commands and functions...
mm...
there is only one but why can't do it:
it's not easy to script and automate.

it's easier to me to translate also 3.63 and 4.10 and probably 4.10 will be in there as soon as ruud pushes the tricker.
that means, before the kix get's to the download section, that page will have up to date manual.
links to older docs will probably be added as I get the page layout thinked in my head.

mm... now when I think about it. flagging the separate things actually is pretty easy to achieve...
just some play around and lots of coffee will do (just translating the kix2001.doc to html took 15mins!
but the basic translation was done with vbs and the actual table stuff (which took 10 seconds) was kix-coded...

Since we're all plugging our own manuals [Smile] Mine is here. I am actually updating it for KiX 4.10. The one at that link already tells you what versions the functions work on.

couldn't get it open in one minute and cancelled.

this is what I mean.
no word-documents I wanna, I wanna have html.
easy and fast opening.

anyway, good that there are many more doing same kindof things.

Lonkero,

I can agree with you about the .DOC format, but .chm is a compiled html help file that all versions of Windows can view. If your on Unix/Linux then hey you're probably doing it differently then the vast majority of Windows NT Admins. I could be wrong, but my guess is that "most" NT Admins run and use Windows NT/2000 as their desktop. If you're a Unix/Linux Admin then your main desktop is probably Unix/Linux and not NT/2000

You could also use PDF, but is has its other limitations. .HLP is the old format that has limits on topic size etc... .HTML is the current preferred method that has few limits.

My own personal preference though is .CHM as I find it easier to search, copy, and paste from.

doc, yes.

You got some point in there.
anyway, I use linux servers too in two separate networks and others servers are purely linux.
anyway, I use kix in there.

so, it's for now uttleast the minority (0.001%) who is in situation as I, but I think that will change in some years time.

what comes to chm, can't do it with my current tools.
my visual studio (v6) has only hlp file creator.

gotta see.

doc, I got really frustrated!

how the heck should I construct the header, index, and topic pages.

read help for 2 hours and trashed my project.

now have been resting one week and could take another look, but still, if I don't have simple instructions, I'll dump that chm-thingy.

cheers,

LOL [Big Grin]

Not easy... I spent many days studying this years ago. Not an easy task in my opinion. I did not say it would be EASY!, I said I like the .CHM better.

Nothing wrong though with having pure HTML if that is more readily available or easier to work with.

doc, I'll maybe look into that when I stop cursing m$...

simple document on what the header files and such should have and how to build it easily...
not asking much. but noavail. will figure some crack to do the job.
until that, I'll rest my case.

Most you guys know where to get it, but in case anyone reading this thread doesn't, the CHM version of the manual can be obtained here:

http://www.scriptlogic.com/kixtart

Still at version 4.02. (not yet updated for 4.10 as of 8-Jul-2002).

This version does have "see also" links which pros and newbies alike should find extremely useful [Smile]

bstyles,
good too see you...

I liked that chm and that's good reason not to have me making one.
but I (maybe all of us) have wishlist:
1. keyword search with partial word.
it's not anymore so poor as with the 3.6-version which didn't give anything unless the correct name was entered.
now "add" and "print" return values which is goodie...

2. index-tab is empty
which does not bother as the toc has better layout, but the tab could be removed.
...read more the toc-tab.
the keyword-index actually is the same as the empty index-tab should have
quote:
KiXtart 4.02 Reference

Keyword Index
A complete listing of all commands, functions and macros in alphabetical order

also, like the addings you ppl have made to give more wide help.
as example the function-command has link to your udf-library.

cheers,
