You can right click on the kix32.exe to get the version or run a script with @kix to output the version.

I really don't believe this is a kix specific error. If you google c0000142 you will see this error popping up in many places. It appears it COULD BE a desktop heap problem or possibly a permissions problem. I'm not linking to any of those sites as I have no experience with that, nor has this issue been referenced here on the forums, ever, until today.

My suggestions would be.
1. Re/Download Kix 4.67 http://www.kixtart.org/?p=downloads
2. Get a clean install of Windows with no other software installed.
3. Run your script
