Forgive me if this is a dumb question but here goes.

Is the

@lserver/@userid/@fullname/@priv/@wksta/@domain

etc information only available at login or can it be used in scripts to update programs etc. I have tried this and although I know which server the workstation logged into, it reported a different server when I tried it to display the server name during a program file update script.

In my experience these macros work properly on NT/W2K/XP whenever you use them - at logon or post logon execution.

Win9x is a different story. After logon, @Lserver will return a DC of the domain in the client's workgroup is named. I am not sure about all of them though.

That is the odd thing, it is returning the DC of a different domain. It is a WIn98 client with NT4 server. I am reasonably sure that this used to work ok.

What domain/workgroup name that is configured in the Win9x computer?

What is the name of the domain of the server reported by @lserver?

Are they the same?

W98 machine settings - Workgroup and Domain are Bath

script reports domain and workgroup as Bath but the server is in the Redditch domain. I have got admin rights in all domains.

It reports the server as a Bath one when I first login

I am running the latest version of Kix.

PBlay,

Is Bath as child domain of Redditch? Or vice versa? Just curious..

Thanks,

- Kent

I don't think so if anything Redditch could be a child of Bath. I don't know, I didn't set it up. How would I find out ?

In Active Directory Users and Computers, for example, if you right-click on the root and open a domain. You should be able to browse for a domain. It should show one or the other under the parent.

Thanks,

Am I right in thinking that I don't have these options under NT4 and that you have assumed Win 2000

In NT4 you should have an understanding of your trust model. that is to say what domain exist and what domains trust what other domains.
