I am trying to install a program from the network with elevated credentials. I am getting an error and am not having any luck finding a solution. Has anyone ran runnas and executed a network program? Does it need to be copied to the local pc and ran from there?

Some of you "'"s looked a little wonky. Give this a shot. I also suggest always adding NoMacrosInString and NoVarsInStrings to your scipts which forces better coding practices (at least in my opinion).

I get an error on the execute when using the new code:

Map Error was winpath: 0 - The operation completed successfully.
Map Error was execute: 2 - The system cannot find the file specified.

It is returning the correct path to runnas.exe and the network location.

ERROR : Error in expression.!

Perhaps I need to run runnas.exe from a mapped drive?

I had an error in the if error line. Fixed that.

Now I have

RUNNAS: The system cannot find the file specified.

If you hard code the runas command instead of using variables, does it work? I'm thinking it's still a quotation problem, but it would be nice to make sure.

You have specified no macros in strings but have a macro in a string (see the macro wrapped in quotes in second line pasted from your code):

$nul = SetOption("NoMacrosInStrings", "On")
$network="@lserver\netlogon\sms\client.bat"

Instead do this:

$network=@lserver+"\netlogon\sms\client.bat"

...and also later:

$runaspath=@lserver+"\netlogon\runnas.exe"

I have tried several variations.

The script does return the correct path to runnas.exe on netlogon, and to client.bat whether client.bat is on the netlogon root, netlogon\sms or a mapped drive.

Here is the error I get using code below.

I tried using a domain admin account just now, thinking perhaps it was a permissions issue. Same error.

The account I am using is a local admin account on the workstations. I am trying to install software using the logon script with elevated permissions.

Also...Does anyone have a copy of the runnas.exe they could host somewhere? Might be easier to figure out that right strokes, if I had it to test with.

Does not work from command line. I tried running from mapped drive and UNC path.

I am thinking this is related to client.bat.

client.msi will run if I execute it. client.bat brings up windows showing switch usage.

I am going to mess with the client.bat file and try using msiexec and passing the msi and switches.

I have the batch file running when I execute it from command line, but I still get an error when running from kix.

This script seems a little over complicated to me. Can you post the contents of the batch file?

I could be wrong but you might also be running to into permissions issues while trying to run runnas across the network.

Might also suggest running %comspec% /c client.bat and see if you get anywhere with that.

OMG :-( IT is always something little that take so much time to figure out.

The / was missing from in front of user

/user:domain\helpdesk

I should have been displaying all variables including $user and $password.

My program still is not running, but runnas is no longer returning an error.
