Listen guys, I have the following problem...

I have a Windows 2008 R2 Server domain with a Windows 7 client. I recently added a Windows 8 client Virtual Machine, which I am testing, to the domain.

My login script states that I copy kixforms.dll to the %windir% location on the clients. This works fine on Windows 7, but with Windows 8 I constantly get access errors saying that I don't have permission.

I can't find anything on google for this problem, so I'm posting here.

Does anyone know how to solve this??

Let me know

Assuming you have permission, and you have disabled the UAC, its likely it is still the UAC interfering. Even when it's turned off on Windows 8, its still on.

There are ways to fix this, but then it breaks the Windows 8 Modern Apps.

The only work around I have found so far is to use elevate.exe, found here:

something like
shell "elevate.exe %comspec% /c copy file.ext %windir%\file.ext"

Or, maybe just stop using %WINDIR% for non-Windows components? That whole concept is so "Windows NT" (and earlier).

I create a folder in C:\Program Files, put KixForms.DLL there and register it using the full path. Works on all versions, including Windows 8 and Server 2012. I haven't touched the Windows folder structure for years.

The warnings are coming up for a reason and rather than finding a way to circumvent them, just follow best practice and keep non-Windows components elsewhere.

Using a GPO to deploy kixforms also works fine. Been using it for classic and .net for years on Win2K, WinXP and Win7 without any issues.
