This is unrelated to Kix and an unsupported configuration.
Are you testing via RunAs and expecting to see the connections in other windows? The registry hack you reference will associate multiple security tokens together, so that drives mapped with one token will be visible to sessions with a different token (such as your primary login ID and a RunAs session).
