So far so good, my KIXtart scripts are working they way I like them - they work! [Big Grin]
I'd like to try KXRPC because I have # users who log on, and each user belongs to certain Organization Groups (Win2K Adv. Server Active Directory), and I'd like to map different drive letters, and do other thing of the sort depending on who belongs to what group instead of scripting user by user, that would just take way to long, plus if I want to change anything in the future that would mean chaing a whole bunch of scripts which is out of the question! So back to my point, I'd like to be able to determin which OU a user belongs to and do stuff accordingly and I read that you have to use KXRPC to do so. So far I've installed KXRPC (on my server) and have a login batch file that copies the required binaries to the client machine (all of which are Win95), and then I wrote a little test KIX script which displays the @PRIMARYGROUP in the console window when the script runs but I'm not seeing anything for @PRIMARYGROUP so I know I'm not doing something right. So.... how do I use KXRPC?

KXRPC runs as a service on the account logon domain controllers. It is used to assist Win9x clients get some additional info such as @Fullname. It will not help you get any information about OU's. For that you will need an Active Directory aware client. If you have AD aware clients, there are some UDF's in hte library to assist you with OU's.

If @PRIMARYGROUP is empty, insure that the KXRPC serive is indeed installed and running properly on your logon servers. Insure that all the binaries are copied to %windir% (it's in the path so Kix32 can find them easily).

It should be a running service on NT/W2K.

To install the KiXtart RPC service
1. Copy Kxrpc.exe to a directory on the server that will run the service.
2. At the command prompt, switch to that directory and type the following command:
KXRPC –install
The KiXtart RPC service can be installed on a remote server using a utility such as SC, RSERVICE or XNET. KiXtart 2001 comes with a batch file called Xinst.cmd, which demonstrates installing the KiXtart RPC service on a remote computer using XNET.

Note
The KiXtart RPC service should only be installed when necessary. Please see the separate chapter on the KiXtart RPC service for details on when and where to install the service.

Starting the KiXtart RPC Service
When it is installed, the KiXtart RPC service is configured to start automatically at system startup. After the initial installation, the service can be started from the Control Panel / Services applet or from the command prompt.

To start the KiXtart RPC service
1. In the Control Panel / Services applet, select the KiXtart RPC service, and then click Start.
– Or –
2. At the command prompt, type the following command:
net start kxrpc

Hey guys...

I've figured it out! I didn't need to use KXRPC after all! I was trying to write a piece of script that basically checked what group a user belonged to and wanted to use the InGroup() function, and for some reason I thought I needed KXRPC to use it - I figured it all out and everything is working!!
